How-To Care Guide
Freshwater Scuds (gammarus, sp)
Freshwater Scuds (sometimes referred to as side-swimmers) are freshwater invertebrates popular in the aquarium hobby as live food for Chichlids, Loaches, Bettas, Mollies, Tetras, and Puffers. They are also among the best algae eaters in the hobby. In the wild they forage at the bottom of ponds and rivers in spaces between stones, roots and within a variety of vegetation. It's also widely believed that they bring out the colors of most live feeder aquarium fish.
You'll receive a combination of juvenile and adult scuds ranging in length from 1/16" to 1/4". We also package 10% more scuds than quantity ordered. Scuds are extremely prolific and will procreate quickly if properly maintained.
Color: Vary from light to dark depending on their habitat
Size: 1/16" - 1/4"
Locality: Found naturally in ponds, rivers and shallow waters
Difficulty: Beginner
Temperature: Scuds are quite temperature tolerant and will do well in water temps ranging between 70-85 F
Behavior: Scuds are peaceful and exhibit no aggression towards tank co-inhabitants including shrimp and guppy fry
Culturing: Easy to culture and very prolific. They require no special food or water treatments. They can survive on left over fish food and fish fesses but do enjoy an occasional fresh vegetable like squash or green beans
.

How-To-Care Guide
Our scuds are double bagged and packaged in Long Life Breathing Bags
Scuds will reproduce in perpetuity if properly maintained
Simply empty your culture directly into desired habitat
Scuds do best at room temp (70-85 F)
The higher the water temp the faster they will procreate (mid-80s is optimal)
Scuds can survive in low oxygen environments but will procreate quicker if kept oxygenated
FOOD: Occasionally place a thin slice of boiled squash, zucchini or green beans in aquarium as a special treat. Otherwise they will survive on left over fish food, fish fesses and aquarium vegetation.
